Courses

The St Giles teaching approach focuses on the needs and aims of
students. Students are individually assessed when they arrive to make sure they are in the best class for their needs.

Learners are encouraged to participate actively in class. Teachers
deliver fast-paced, interactive lessons so that students are motivated
to learn and courses are interesting, relevant and enjoyable.

Lesson
content is planned around the interests and needs of students. Regular one-to-one sessions with teachers allow students to continually influence the content of the programme.

St. Giles teaches students a rounded set of skills. We build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing English. Class sizes are small, a maximum of 12, to give you more personal attention. Every 2 weeks you have a progress check with your teacher and every eight weeks you are assessed to make sure you are progressing as far and as fast as you can.

All teachers are qualified, native level English speakers, and many
have years of experience. St Giles builds on the experience of their
teachers to develop consistently high teaching standards. Student feedback is very important to St Giles. In 2014, most students rated teaching at St Giles as exceeding their expectations. This rating has consistently increased over the past 3 years. In 2014, both the friendliness of teachers and quality of teaching were graded, on
average, as between “very good” and “excellent”.

Eastbourne is a friendly, safe and relaxed town. It is a traditional seaside town and it’s reputation for being Britain’s sunniest place attracts over 4 million visitors a year. The area round Eastbourne is recognized as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Surrounding landmarks include the magnificent 15th century Herstmonceux Castle set in 500 acres of gardens and the 11th century Arundel Castle, home of the Dukes of Norfolk for 1000 years. Our school is off a quiet street a minute from the sea. At the end of the road is the Western Lawns, a garden leading onto the seafront and the beach. From there you can walk along the sea past the carpet gardens to the Grand Parade and enjoy the traditional Victorian seafront attractions. There is the pier, the harbor and the leisure pool, with water sports and boat trips all nearby. Year round events take place on the seafront, with free concerts and markets at the bandstand. A few minutes walk in another direction takes you to the Contemporary Art Museum and the Congress Theatre. The town centre is less than 10 minutes’ walk through quiet streets of Victorian houses. The town has shops, cafes and restaurants where you can spend the time outside class and practice your English in a typically English setting. Eastbourne is 30 minutes by train from the vibrant city of Brighton where you can also find plenty of shopping, entertainment and cultural activities in your spare time. The school is a 15 minute walk from the train station where there are frequent direct trains from the town centre, taking you to London in 90 minutes.
