The St Giles School in Brighton - located in the heart of this lively and cosmopolitan British seaside city - offers modern facilities, a wide range of courses and an exciting atmosphere.
St Giles, Brighton opened its doors to students in 1969 and is now located in four large, Regency-style buildings in the centre of the city, adjacent to the iconic Royal Pavilion and a short walk to the beach.
The school offers a wide range of courses including:

● Platinum courses and Teacher Training (TEFL).
All courses are taught according to a 20-hour or 28-hour per week schedule. The light and spacious school building houses 45 classrooms - each equipped with interactive whiteboards - with a capacity to teach 650 students in total.
Lessons are taught in small, intimate groups (maximum 12) and emphasis is placed on speaking, listening and group discussion.
Students come to learn English at St Giles, Brighton from all over the world and there is a diverse mix of nationalities. Brighton also has two universities which both attract a high number of international students, giving the city a lively, bohemian atmosphere.
St Giles, Brighton also owns its own student residence, only a 4-minute walk from the school. The residence has 30 comfortable single rooms, each with private bathroom, and shared kitchens and lounge.
Alternatively, the school can also place students in English homes (Homestay) or a selection of hotels and guest houses. Brighton lies just 50 minutes by train to London and 30 mins by train to Gatwick airport.
Teaching at St Giles, Brighton, is 'learner-centred' and courses are tailored to the individual needs and interests of the students. Classes have a maximum of 12 students and learners are encouraged to participate fully in all activities.
Lessons are fast-paced, interesting and enjoyable and students learn the language through speaking, listening, writing and vocabulary. Class discussion and interaction in English is actively encouraged.
To encourage students to practise their English outside of the classroom, the school Welfare Team provides a full social programme, with discounted theatre trips, pub nights, sports timetable and even Salsa lessons! The team also arrange regular excursions to interesting places outside of Brighton.
All teachers at St Giles, Brighton are qualified native-level English speakers, some to Diploma and Master’s level. Teachers are continually assessed and evaluated to ensure they meet the high standards demanded by the school.
Feedback and Testing:
Students receive continuous one-to-one feedback with their teacher throughout each course, where they can discuss their progress and any areas for improvement. Providing students attend 80% and over of their classes, they will receive a full report outlining their progress and achievements at the end of the course.
At the beginning of each course, students are tested for language ability according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. There are six levels, ranging from Beginner to Proficient, and students are placed into classes according to their position on the scale. At the beginning of each course students receive a Personal Progress Chart which tracks their position on
the scale throughout the course. Every 8 weeks, students are given a level assessment test.
As well as teaching staff, St Giles Brighton has a Welfare team who provide full support to students surrounding accommodation, transport and other personal issues during their time at the school.
The General Language courses provide full immersion into the language and are taught in small groups of 12 or on a one-to-one basis. All courses are tailored to ability, from Beginner to Proficient.
General Languages Courses are divided into four categories:
1. General English, 28 hours per week – an intensive, full-time course. 1 week+ duration.
2. General English, 20 hours per week – a less intensive course designed to give students more leisure time in the morning or afternoon. 1 week+ duration.
3. General English for Beginners, 28 hours per week – a four-week course, providing beginners in English with full immersion into the language.
4. One-to-one – a personal lesson with their teacher. Combine with a group course or choose only one-to-one lessons.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: all courses are taught at the St Giles, Brighton School building. Courses start every Monday (excluding public holidays) and the minimum age is 16.
● 28 hour course: 9.30 to 15.30
● 20 hour course: 9.30 to 13.00 OR 13.45 to 17.40
● Beginners course (28 hour/4 weeks): 9.30am to 3.30pm
● One-to-one: To be arranged with school.

Course certificate: full report and certificate at the end of the course (provided students have 80% or more attendance)
Topics covered include managing business meetings, negotiating in English, using the telephone for business, giving presentations and writing reports, emails and letters. The course is open to those with intermediate (B1) English Language ability and above.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: all courses are taught at the St Giles, Brighton school building. 28 hours per week from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday.
Lesson duration: 50 minutes
Course certificate: full report and certificate (on 80% or more attendance). Students can also choose to take the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) during this programme.
The course offers 20 hours of IELTS preparation per week with the option to add 8 more hours per week of General English. By following an IELTS preparation course, students are fully prepared to take both the written and oral IELTS examinations, and the course includes exam practice.
Students must have intermediate (B1) English language ability and above to gain entry to the IELTS Preparation Course.

20 morning lessons per week of IELTS preparation (9.00 to 13.00) with the option to add a further 8 General English lessons per week in the afternoon.
