The Stafford House school is located in the centre of Canterbury, one of the UK’s most visited cities, only a mile away from the awe-inspiring Cathedral. The city is in the Southeast of England in the county of Kent, nicknamed the ‘Garden of England’ and lies just an hour away from London by train and a 25 minute car journey from the coast. Built in Roman times, Canterbury is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the seat of the Church of England’s highest primate, the Archbishop of Canterbury. The city has a population of just under 45,000 people and is characterised by narrow winding streets of distinctive black and white architecture and quintessentially English tea shops. However, although Canterbury is a city of historical significance, it is also a modern and vibrant place, with a thriving restaurant and theatre scene and buzzing nightlife. The city is home to two universities, Canterbury Christchurch University and the University of Kent, which attract students from around the world. Canterbury has a large number of shopping areas, including the award-winning Whitefriars shopping centre which houses some of the UK’s largest retailers in the heart of the city. Further afield students can take a train into London or head to the seaside resorts of Whitstable and Herne Bay, which offer miles of stunning beaches, traditional fish n chips and laid-back bars. The famous London Westfield shopping mall is also less than an hour away by train. Canterbury and the Kent area has everything to offer students looking for a typically English cultural experience with modern facilities.
