OHLA Los Angeles, situated in the exclusive Sherman Oaks area, combines award-winning courses, a diverse student community and five-star facilities.
The OHLA Los Angeles school is located in the DeVryUniversity building within the ‘Sherman Oaks Galleria,’ just 11 miles north of Beverly Hills.
The Galleria is an ultra-modern corporate and shopping village which houses a number of other businesses, dining and shopping areas, a state of the art movie theatre and a 24-hour fitness center. Sherman Oaks is an affluent area popular with celebrities and many TV shows and movies, such as Terminator II and Desperate Housewives have been shot there. The OHLA-Sherman Oaks school is conveniently located for LA’s bus and metro lines and its top-class facilities attract students from all over the world.

Students at OHLA-Sherman Oaks can choose to follow courses from between 10 to 35 lessons per week and classes are taught in small groups of around 12 students (max 15) with a diverse mix of nationalities. OHLA-Sherman Oaks students can be housed in three off-campus hotel-style residences or through OHLA’s extensive Homestay program, with hosts across the Los Angeles area
OHLA-Sherman Oaks also offers an extensive social programme to encourage students to interact with their peers and staff members in English.
Activities range from a trip to the famous Malibu beach or to one of Los Angeles’s many theme parks. The school also has a student services team, on hand to arrange airport transfers, provide pre and post-arrival orientation and deal with day-to-day problems.
OHLA is committed to a ‘continuous learning strategy’ and all their schools have an ‘English Only’ policy, which means that English must be spoken at all times, as soon as students cross the threshold. This policy promotes intensive English language practice and helps students to learn quickly.
The school provides high-quality academic and English language programs as well as a cultural experience for people who wish to learn English as a second language for academic, professional and personal purposes. OHLA uses a skills-based curriculum, focused specifically on developing necessary linguistic skills in five major areas: Reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar.

To encourage students to practice their English outside of the classroom, OHLA-Sherman Oaks provide a program of interesting social activities.
All of OHLA-Sherman Oaks teachers are qualified English language instructors based in the US who come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Each teacher has completed at least a Bachelor Degree in Second Language teaching or in a related field as well as additional ESL qualifications.
Therefore students learn English through speaking and listening activities, role play, class discussion and a number of specialised courses tailored towards the students’ interests and areas of need (intensive and super intensive courses only). Courses are open to all levels (from pre-basic up to Elite, the level required for university entrance) and are taught in blocks of 12 weeks. Students’ language levels are continuously assessed so they can be moved up to the next level.
General Languages Courses at OHLA-Sherman Oaks include:
1. Semi-Intensive - 20 Lessons per week
2. Semi-Intensive + Exam preparation (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge) - 35 lessons per week.
3. Intensive - 24 lessons per week which include two elective courses (see below)
4. Super-intensive - 28 lessons per week which include four elective courses (see below).
5. One-to-one - 10 lessons per week

● Intensive - Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 14.00 (except on Friday when classes finish at 12.40)
● Super Intensive - Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 15:00
● One-to-One - Monday to Friday, 14.10 to 16.00
Lesson duration: 50 minutes
● Course duration - four weeks
● Includes 2 lessons of instruction in small groups, 1 lesson of one-to-one lab work and weekly exam practice (every Friday)
● Can be combined with the Semi-Intensive general English course
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: All exam preparation courses run for four consecutive weeks and start every second Monday of the month. All courses are taught at the OHLA-Sherman Oaks school building from Monday to Thursday, from 14.10 to 17.00. Exam practice is on Fridays.
