At Language School International Toronto, you learn and live the language.

Toronto is home to one of the 2 LSI schools in Canada, and is the largest city in the country. The school is situated in the vibrant Rosedale area, and occupies the 2nd and 3rd floors of a modern building.

There are 17 well lit and airy classrooms. It has a courtyard, student common room, along with a computer room with free Wi-Fi.

The school has no dining facilities. However, there is a lunch room with a fridge and microwaves for making simple snacks. Students can take advantage of the many cafes and restaurants very close to the school.

LSI Toronto, is attended by students from over 30 countries. The largest group come from Japan, Brazil, Venezuela and Turkey. There are usually between 60 and 160 students at the school, the busiest period is normally between June and August.

Students from the age of 13 years can attend the school for the junior program. The adult program is for students aged 16 years and upwards. The school has recorded the average age of students as 23-24 years in the summer months and 27-29 years in winter.

All students are required to have health insurance for the entire time they are at the school. If they arrive without insurance, the school can provide it for them.

Courses

Students are assessed as soon as they arrive at LSI Toronto. They are categorised into one of 6 groups; Beginner, Elementary, Pre intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate or Advanced.

This ensures that they each learn at a pace and level to match their needs.Lessons focus heavily on enhancing communicative skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. The aim is to get students fluent in English in the quickest time.

Type of courses

The general English course is offered for a duration between 1 week and 50 weeks. Students generally attend 20 lessons per week. This course is intended for Students over the age of 16 years. The classes are small and limited to no more than 15 students.

Using everyday situations, the student’s level of English is expected to progress fairly rapidly. The skills taught are split into two sessions. Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in one, and speaking, listening, reading and writing in another. Each lesson includes the use of a variety of materials. Newspapers and magazines are used, they will also take part in more fun things like role-play. All of these are designed to speed up the learning process.

INTENSIVE 25 AND INTENSIVE 30 – DESCRIPTION

This course consists of 25 or 30 lessons, and the course length can vary from 1 – 50 weeks depending on the student’s need. Courses start each week and are offered at beginner or advanced level. Classes are limited to 15 students.

These courses are for those who need to learn English as quickly as possible. Elements of the course are the same as for the General English course. However, the afternoon sessions are more intensive and focused on what students have already
learnt. They will be expected to attain a level of fluency and comprehension. And also gain a sound knowledge of the people and customs of the host country.
This course can be taken as part of the LSI English for Business course.

Lessons are between 09:00 a.m. and 16:00 p.m. 2 or 3 days per week, depending on lesson plan for Intensive 25. And 25 hours per week for Intensive 30.

Many students want to learn English because it is the language of business. This modular course is designed for anyone wanting to improve their English. Each module is studied over 1 week and students can join the course every Monday. Students are expected to already have a reasonable command of the English language. The course allows them to build and improve their language skills in a business setting.

There is a mixture of language and business study, with the morning focused on language skills. The afternoons are all about using English in business. Some of the topic studied include, Banking, the Stock Market, Marketing and advertising, and Recruitment. Students can choose to study the modules that they are interested in, and which are relevant to their business needs. They may opt to study the complete course to attain the highest level of business English.

The course is offered to students who want to study at university. It’s designed to improve their ability to study successfully at an academic level. Students learn how to study independently to cope with the demands of university.

Over 20 lessons, students will develop their grammar and language skills. A further 10 lessons will focus on study skills. There will also be practice exams, to improve their performance in the live tests. This course is a requirement if students want to go on to further academic study, in the USA or Canada.

This exam preparation course is for students who want to study at university level. A total of 30 lessons is offered per week. 20 lessons will focus on improving language and grammar skills. The remaining 10 lessons will aim to improve student’s study skills and include practice for examinations. This test is internationally recognised.

Students will be more confident once they have taken this course. Their chances of gaining admission to university in most English speaking countries will increase. And they will be more likely to succeed when applying for a range of jobs. If students plan to take the LSI Intensive 30 course, they can incorporate this one. Please note that exam fees are not included in the cost of the course.

Location

LSI Toronto is conveniently located for shops, bars and restaurants. In just a 15-20 minute ride on the subway, students can visit the CN tower and take a guided tour. There is a restaurant at the top of the building to dine while taking in the views of the city. There are also galleries, museums and the Harbour front to visit. If students fancy a boat ride to Toronto Island, they can travel from the ferry dock. Students who enjoy ball games can visit the stadium of the Toronto Blue Jays. They can enjoy the game and practice their English with other students. There are many activities outside the school that students can get involved in. Picnics are always popular in the summer months. But come winter, many people enjoy ice skating. If ice skating isn’t for you, then perhaps you would rather watch others skate at an Ice Hockey match. Toronto is full of historic sites to visit as well as beautiful parks. Some activities are seasonal, but if you have ever wanted to visit Niagara Falls, year-round trips are on offer. Every day of the week there are organised excursions. All students are encouraged to attend, as everything they take part in is another opportunity to improve their English. To get around the city there is a choice of buses, streetcars and the subway.
