It takes about an hour to walk across the city of Boston. It is a small intimate place, where students can study and socialize together. Attending LSI Boston will make students feel as though they are in their home environment with their friends.
The school is in one of the oldest cities in America. Many of the buildings in Boston– including the school building - are very old. The Brownstone building where it is situated, is shared with other tenants including a deli. 10 classrooms are on the fourth and fifth floor, where a maximum of 15 Students are taught. The rooms are character-filled with large windows and exposed red brick walls. Look up to the ceiling and you will see beautiful exposed wooden beams. Students have the use of 15 computers in the computer lounge, and there is also free Wi-fi available. They can also make use of the e-learning system.
There is no cafeteria, but students can use the microwaves and vending machines. Food is available from one of the many cafés, restaurants, sandwich shops and markets. There are tables and chairs on the roof terrace, where students can have lunch or just socialise. On the fourth floor is a student lounge with a chalkboard graffiti wall, where students can write messages. They can create something fun, while at the same time improving their English. Board games are another fun way for students to interact and get to know each other.
A diverse range of students attend the school, from as far apart as Columbia, Thailand, Spain and turkey. The bulk of students are in their twenties, but students between the age of 16 and 65 attend language courses at LSI Boston.
They aim to provide each student with the best education possible. In lessons, students can expect to use, CDs, DVDs and websites. These methods help students to absorb the language effortlessly. They experience the English language in many ways and learn how to use it in different situations.
The lessons focus on enhancing communicative skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. The aim is to get students fluent in English in the quickest time.
The other two lessons focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Each lesson includes the use of a variety of materials. They include newspapers and magazines. Students also take part in more fun things like role-play. All of these aids speed up the learning process. Students praise the staff, saying that they offer help and advice if they experience any problems.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: There are 4 lessons per day between 09:10 a.m. 12:50 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Two Intensive courses are offered. They consist of 25 or 30 lessons, and the course length can vary from 1 – 50 weeks depending on the student’s need. Courses start each week and are offered at beginner or advanced level. Classes are for those age 16 years and above and is limited to a total of 15 students. People who take this course generally need to learn English as quickly as possible. Elements of the course are the same as for the General English course.
However, the afternoon sessions are more intensive and focused on what students have already learnt. Students will be expected to attain a level of fluency and comprehension. And also gain a sound knowledge of the people and customs of the host country.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: There are 25 lessons between 09:10 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
The course allows them to build and improve their language skills in a business setting. In the mornings students study the Intensive 30 English course to improve their language skills. In the afternoons they concentrate on using English in business. Some of the topic studied include, Banking, the Stock Market, Marketing and Advertising, and Recruitment.
Students can choose to study the modules that they are interested in, and which are relevant to their business needs. They may opt to study the complete course to attain the highest level of business English.
A further 10 lessons will focus on study skills. There will also be practice exams, to improve their performance in the live tests. This course is a requirement if students want to go on to further academic study, in the USA or Canada. Exam fees are included.
