International House London - 2017/18 Information
16 Stukeley Street, London, United Kingdom
Our students choose IH London for a variety of reasons: our 60 years of experience, our fantastic teaching staff, our central London location, our extensive social programme and our vibrant, inclusive and multinational environment.
Founded by John and Brita Haycraft in 1953, International House London is a non-profit-making educational trust committed to raising the standard of English language teaching and training worldwide.
Our school is a modern purpose built facility with 5 floors and 56 classrooms along with a café, library, self-access centre, free high-speed wi-fi and everything you would expect from a modern professional English language school.
Each year we welcome over 100 nationalities to study with us, we are truly a multi-national school and we look forward to welcoming you, wherever you come from, to study with us in Covent Garden.
Our maximum class size for our General English programmes is 14 but our average class size is 10. Our average age is 25, but we have students from 16 to 75 that come and learn with us.
Our classes focus on improving General English fluency considering all aspects: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
If you want to study in a group during daytime weekdays we have three General English courses named after the number of lessons a week: 15, 20 and 25.
General English 15 classes are in the morning from 9.00 to 12.00, Monday to Friday.
General English 20 and 25 have the same morning lessons but with extra afternoon classes: General 20 from 12.15 to 13.10, and General English 25 from 13.15 to 15.10.
Students will learn skills and techniques they can use in exams, by practicing with sample papers. They should be confident in their ability to do what is expected of them, by their exam date. Studying at a higher level, means that students need to know how to ‘skim read’ to pick out important points quickly.
They will also need to know how to paraphrase passages of text. All these study techniques are taught.
