English Language Centre York offers top quality courses and is located in one of the UK’s most beautiful and historic locations.
The English Language Centre in York is one of four elite and long-standing Experience English schools in the UK. ELC York was established in 1997 and is situated in a beautiful Georgian building in the centre of the charming and ancient city of York. The school is equipped with 23 classrooms and offers innovative and immersive learning and a highly professional teaching and welfare team.
There is a broad range of courses to choose from including General English, Exam Preparation (IELTS, Cambridge) for all levels and ages. Students can choose from studying for 15 hours to 25 hours per week. Classes are a maximum of 12 students, giving students the opportunity to engage with their teacher and classmates on a more intimate level.
There is also a varied social programme, with trips to York’s many museums and pub quiz nights. The school can also arrange for students to be housed either through their Homestay programme or in a residence just 10 minutes away from the school building on foot.
The four schools share a philosophy of teaching language through immersing students in English, as well as UK culture and history at all times. English Language Centre, York uses ‘Immersive Activities’ such as exciting social events and teacher-led extra-curricular language clubs to boost overall fluency quickly. The school offers weekly progress testing, tailor-made learning plans, individual tutorials and online support to ensure you excel. The school offers courses to suit all abilities, ages and interests with some unique offerings such as ‘English with Historic Houses and Gardens.’
There is also a varied social programme which encourages students to mix with their peers, using English to converse in everyday situations.
Students will use up-to-the-minute resources such as newspapers, magazines and the Internet to fully immerse themselves in the language. Lessons are lively and fun - with a maximum 12 students - and encourage students to engage in discussion and conversation. The school also offers a General English course designed specifically for students over the age of 50 on a 15-hour to 30-hour schedule. You can also choose to learn English at English Language Centre, York through One-to-One tuition, where your teacher can focus on your individual needs. One-to-One courses are taught on a 5, 10 of 15-hour per week schedule.
FCE: The Cambridge English: First (FCE) Certificate demonstrates that you have the necessary English communication skills required to study, live and work in an English-speaking environment. It is a common entry requirement for foundation or pathway courses in English-speaking countries, as well as for undergraduate degrees taught in English, in both native and non-native English-speaking universities. The course runs for 6 to 12 weeks and you can choose from the following options:
- FCE Exam Preparation 15: 15 hours of exam preparation classes
- FCE Exam Preparation 20: 15 hours of exam preparation classes + 5 hours of General English classes
- FCE Exam Preparation 25: 15 hours of exam preparation classes + 10 hours of General English classes
CAE: The CAE Exam Preparation Course is designed to help you prepare fully for the CAE exam, developing your knowledge, expectations and understanding of the test. The course runs for 6,10 or 12 weeks and you can choose from the following options:
- CAE Exam Preparation 15: 15 hours of exam preparation classes
- CAE Exam Preparation 20: 15 hours of exam preparation classes + 5 hours of General English classes
