Learn English in the city where many world leaders were educated.

EC Oxford started taking English language students in 2013. The school building sits among the university buildings of one of the premier universities in the UK, Oxford. The centre can take 204 students and each class size is between 12 and 15 students.

Students have the use of 17 internet connected computers, and free Wi-Fi throughout the centre. There are library facilities as well as a self-study area. The minimum age of students admitted is 16 years, there is no upwards age limit.

Students from all over the world choose to study English at Oxford. The largest numbers come from, Colombia, Thailand and Libya. Many students enjoy the learning experience offered in an old city like Oxford. There are a wonderful selection of college buildings in the city, making it an ideal place to explore.

Classrooms are bright and well laid out to make it easy for students to interact. The interactive whiteboards, makes learning fun and enjoyable. The student common rooms make it easy for students to quickly get to know each other.

The school has fun things like PlayStations, so that students can have fun as part of the learning experience. It gives them the opportunity to practice what they have learnt in the structured classes, in a more relaxed setting.

Courses

All the teachings are qualified and experienced in teaching English to
non-native speakers. Lessons are focused on helping students learn the English language as quickly as possible, and use it in the right context. The school agenda is to make the student’s time at EC Oxford, the best it can be.

The reception team as well as the teachers, do everything they can help students with any problems they may have. In each session, the teacher tries to engage all students as much as possible. The classes are task based, students must communicate with each other and take part in all the activities, which are designed to make learning faster and fun.

The classes are supplemented with meetings and workshops to help
students improve in areas such as grammar and pronunciation. Students are motivated at every opportunity to improve on any weak areas. The desired outcome is that they become confident learners.
Classes include aids to learning such as newspapers, CDs, internet and video.

All these things help students to grasp the way English is used in everyday settings by native speakers. Every day of the week there are activities student are encouraged to take part in, to enhance their experience of learning English. The main aim of the teachers is to send the student home with a greater understanding of the English language.

Students will experience how to use the language in real life settings. Students who are beginners as well as those who already have a level of English comprehension, find this course useful. INTENSIVE ENGLISH COURSE DESCRIPTION

At EC Oxford students will notice an improvement in their English whilst they are taking this course and beyond. The focus will be on teaching fluency and accuracy. There are areas that all students have to study, but for the third module students are able to choose areas where they need to improve the most. That way student make the best use of their time whilst studying. One of the modules students can choose from is Write Now. In this module they will learn how to write for different audiences, and the language and style that is appropriate. In addition, they can focus on academic skills and how to write things like presentations. They can concentrate on improving their language skills by studying different news media, and learn how to recognise fact as opposed to opinion.

Students taking this course are assessed at the start to determine their level of English. They will then join a class with other students who are on the same level. Each student receives a Language Portfolio and a study tool that is unique to their needs. They are mentored to ensure they are as fluent in English as they can
be. Throughout the course they will have continuous assessments to monitor their progress. Lessons focus on corporate situations where they build their confidence. They learn how to communicate with clients and colleagues in business settings. By the end of the course, the aim is for students to become fluent in the language of international business. Students will find out about professional business relationships, how to interact with business clients from anywhere in the world. They will understand methods of communication. Also how to accept or decline invitations and how to welcome foreign visitors.

EC Oxford offer exam preparation course including IELTS and TOEFL. Student may take one of these course to improve their prospects at work, to gain entry into higher education, or for their own personal sense of achievement. Some of the lessons will be the same as the core skills taught throughout the school. They are: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will learn skills they can use in exams, by practicing with sample papers. By the time their exams come round, they should be confident to be able to do what is expected of them. When studying at a higher levels, students need to know how to read and extract important points quickly. They will also learn how to paraphrase passages of text.

EC Oxford is in a prestigious location close to the ancient college buildings, some of them are 500 to 600 years old. It is a small city but has all the shops, restaurants and bars that will make the Oxford experience a memorable one. When the weather is good, students may get the opportunity to go punting down the river Thames, an activity that is very popular in Oxford. They also have the opportunity to indulge in a very British activity, the cream tea. Fish and Chips is another British delight they can’t go home without trying. Students will engage in activities outside the school that will help improve their English, such a going to the local cinema. Inside the school students get to meet people from all different culture, and they can extend this experience in social settings. Being a university city, there are always people from all over the world. So student who attend EC Oxford should feel comfortable studying there. The city of Oxford is a sightseer’s delight. Not only are there some magnificent old buildings, there are some wonderful museums. The Ashmolean Museum is a short walk from the school. On display are works of art from many areas of history from around the world. Oxford is also home to the Natural History Museum and the Bodleian Library. The train station is a short distance from the school, making trips into London quick and easy. The school offer excursions to Ireland, Brighton, Paris and Stonehenge
