EC Oxford started taking English language students in 2013. The school building sits among the university buildings of one of the premier universities in the UK, Oxford. The centre can take 204 students and each class size is between 12 and 15 students.
Students have the use of 17 internet connected computers, and free Wi-Fi throughout the centre. There are library facilities as well as a self-study area. The minimum age of students admitted is 16 years, there is no upwards age limit.
Students from all over the world choose to study English at Oxford. The largest numbers come from, Colombia, Thailand and Libya. Many students enjoy the learning experience offered in an old city like Oxford. There are a wonderful selection of college buildings in the city, making it an ideal place to explore.
Classrooms are bright and well laid out to make it easy for students to interact. The interactive whiteboards, makes learning fun and enjoyable. The student common rooms make it easy for students to quickly get to know each other.
The school has fun things like PlayStations, so that students can have fun as part of the learning experience. It gives them the opportunity to practice what they have learnt in the structured classes, in a more relaxed setting.
The reception team as well as the teachers, do everything they can help students with any problems they may have. In each session, the teacher tries to engage all students as much as possible. The classes are task based, students must communicate with each other and take part in all the activities, which are designed to make learning faster and fun.
The classes are supplemented with meetings and workshops to help students improve in areas such as grammar and pronunciation. Students are motivated at every opportunity to improve on any weak areas. The desired outcome is that they become confident learners. Classes include aids to learning such as newspapers, CDs, internet and video.
All these things help students to grasp the way English is used in everyday settings by native speakers. Every day of the week there are activities student are encouraged to take part in, to enhance their experience of learning English. The main aim of the teachers is to send the student home with a greater understanding of the English language.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: 09:00 a.m. to 17:30 Monday to Friday
Lessons focus on corporate situations where they build their confidence. They learn how to communicate with clients and colleagues in business settings. By the end of the course, the aim is for students to become fluent in the language of international business. Students will find out about professional business relationships, how to interact with business clients from anywhere in the world. They will understand methods of communication. Also how to accept or decline invitations and how to welcome foreign visitors.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: 09:00 a.m. to 17:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
They are: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will learn skills they can use in exams, by practicing with sample papers. By the time their exams come round, they should be confident to be able to do what is expected of them. When studying at a higher levels, students need to know how to read and extract important points quickly. They will also learn how to paraphrase passages of text.
Time and Days of the week where the course is taught: There are 20 – 30 lessons Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:30
